Here is a glossary of complicated e-cigarette terms for those perplexed.
Adapter: Any device to allow parts not originally suited for an e-cigarette. In the same way we have adaptors on plugs to cope with different power surges the adaptor allows the e-cigarette to cope with different atomisers or cartridges.
ASH: Stands for Action for Smoking on Health. In the UK it is known both as ASH and ASH UK.
Atomiser: The "machine" in the e-cigarette if you like which creates the vapour from the e-liquid.
Big Tobacco: The companies that collectively make cigarettes. (Nowadays they also make e-cigarettes, but are still known as Big Tobacco.)
BMA: British Medical Association. Cartomiser: A combined cartridge or atomiser.The US citizenry spell it cartomizer.
Cartridge: The container of the e-liquid. Cutoff switch: Not to be confused with the automatic switch, this will turn the atomiser off it gets too hot.
Digi-cig: Rather barmy name for an e-cig, I feel.
Disposable e-cigarette: One that is designed to be chucked away when the cartridge is used.
E-cig: Popular abbreviation for the electronic cigarette.
E-cigar: An e-cigarette resembling a cigar; also called the cigar style e-cigarette. As with the e-cigarette some of them are disposable.
E-pipe: An electronic cigarette shaped like a pipe.
ENDS: Electronic Nicotine Devices, another term for-guess what-an electronic cigarette
FDA: Food and Drug Adminstration; US term.
Inhale: To breath in, the opposite is exhale.
Manual switch: Unsurprisingly, a button to turn on an e-cigarette. Not all electronic cigarettes work this way. Some operate automatically-they have an "automatic switch" you can say, by just breathing in.
Menthol: Another name for peppermint flavour.
Nicotine: The additive component of tobacco, which is added to the e-liquid.
Nicotine level: The strength of nicotine, measured in milligrams per millilitres (or milliliters).
Pen: An electronic cigarette which is rather thin, and so resembles a pen, usually a coloured pen.
NRT: Nicotine Replacement Therapy, nicotine patches and gum. Obviously used instead of cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
Personal inhaler: As opposed to an impersonal inhaler, presumably. It comes from the medicator used by asthmatics which is used by them. If e-cigarettes ever get prescribed no doubt they'll gain wider currency.
Starter kit: A kit which generally consists of an atomizer, cartridges, a charger and a number of batteries. A basic kit, in other words. Some of them are more basic than others.
Tank: A particular cartridge of a "supersized" shape.
Throat hit: More or less self-explanatory. The feelings of flavours and nicotine in the back of the throat, which have a powerful punch.
Vaparator: A daft name for someone who looks at different e-cigarettes and other materials, rather than something more simpler than "e-cigarette critic" or "e-cigarette journalist". Oh well, it keeps dictionary compilers happy.
Vape: To smoke, to use an e-cigarette. A use of an e-cigarette is called a vaper.
Vapemeet: A get together of e-cigarette smokers.
War against cigarettes: The struggle that a country/state/territory has in banning or regulating e-cigarettes.
